Roofs in Georgia are under a lot of stress. There’s the direct heat from the sun, the humidity that’s affecting the tack, and the numerous storms we get throughout the year. That’s why it’s important to keep on top of your roof repair and realize when it’s time for new roof installation. Let’s take a look at how we here at Roofing Resources of Georgia can help you.

Roof Installation

It would be great if roofs lasted forever, but they just don’t. For the average asphalt shingle roof, they’re going to start deteriorating quickly after about 20 years. At that point, it’s a good idea to start thinking about new roof installation.

Getting a new roof on isn’t something you want to put off once you start seeing signs of wear, because just a few missing shingles can lead to big problems on the inside of the house if the roof starts to leak.

When the time for putting on a new roof arrives, you have options. Let’s take a look at three of the most common types of roofs we install every day.

Asphalt Shingles

First, there’s the traditional asphalt shingle roof, which is the common type of roof in the country. This is what people think of when they hear the word shingles. Shingles are made from asphalt and the surface granules, and after about 20 years these start to wear away and expose the lower layers of the shingle to the elements.

At Roofing Resources of Georgia, we can help you find that perfect shingle for your roof. Maybe you want to replace them with something similar to what was there before. You could also choose to replace them with a higher-quality shingle that will last longer. We’d love to talk with you about your options.

Metal Roofs

While metal roofs were once the roofing choice of businesses, they’re becoming more and more popular on homes. Metal roofs are made from either aluminum or steel, and it takes special training to learn how to install them.

Why would someone choose a metal roof? Metal roofs are an excellent option because they last so long, up to 50 years. While they’re more expensive to install, they’re usually cheaper over the life of the house and the roof. Some people also like the options because metal roofs will be recyclable at the end of their life, while traditional asphalt shingles will simply head to the landfill. Also, metal roofs can reflect the heat better and create a barrier between the house and the roof itself.

Tile Roofs

Tile roofs look amazing when they’re on, and they are the roof of choice for some specific house styles. Many tiles are so hard that they’ll actually outlast the house itself, perhaps lasting 100 years or more. Tiles can also help with regulating the temperature of a home.

Tile has a couple of restrictions, though. First of all, it is more expensive than traditional roofs, but considering how long it lasts it can be cheaper over the years. Second, the tiles of tile roofs are incredibly heavy, which means that the house’s roof needs to have extra reinforcement put in the attic in order to hold the weight.

Roof Inspections

Like we said before, Georgian roofs are put through a lot throughout the year. There’s the heat and the humidity, the winds and the storms, the hail, and even occasional ice. And, of course, all of those put together over time will break down the shingles on the average roofs. Even newer roofs can give out of the winds get too high, or, worst-case scenario, if a tornado passes nearby.

That’s why we offer free roofing inspections to let you know just how much time and elements have worn down your roof. If we find problems, we’ll let you know about them and what you can do from there. We can even talk with your insurance agency to see if they’ll take care of the roof repair (or even roof replacement) for you.
